Today I thought I’d write about a New Zealand artist, Liyen Chong, who embroiders with hair. Her work is amazing; you should check out the rest of it at her website. The hair produces some interesting textures. (I initially saw a link to her at Jenny Hart’s blog, Embroidery as Art.)

OMG! What a wonderful site with all the hair embroidery. Truly orginal. Thanks again for posting such an awesome site. I need to go back and look at all the art for the Humid Project.
you’re welcome. I really love it too!
Wow! Not what I was expecting!
Some of those design would translate to free-form embroidery beautifully (with permission of the artist, of course – my current piece was originally an Illustration done by a professional illustrator here in Australia, and she gave me permission to use one of her pieces and translate into embroidery (the butterfly), on the understanding that I’d give her a hi-res copy of the finished piece to do with as she wished. 🙂
