Flower petals in Japanese darning stitch

I settled on Japanese darning stitch for the light blue airy petals of these flowers. I’d never tried this stitch before, but I love the effect. It’s easy and quick. I have no idea if it’s actually Japanese or not though!

I have no idea whether it’s Japanese, either, but it does produce a good, lacy effect!

I can’t quite tell from the pictures but I think that you have done long parrallel laid stitches, then short perpendicular stitches, spanning two laid lines that slightly distort the laid lines. I have seen this technique and variations of it used in Japanese embroidery. I very much like the effect and intend to use it at some point šŸ™‚
