Crewel embroidery pillow

This crewel pillow was made by my great-grandmother. The dominant colors are shades of pink and green, plus brown. There are spots of yellow acting as an accent color. It’s an effective color scheme.

The satin stitching is really pretty in this area:

I see chain stitch, trellis stitch, french knots,  satin stitch, and running stitch in the photo  below.

I like this flower and the leaf with the chevron filling down the center.

The colors are so pretty. Usually in pillows of this nature the colors are golds, oranges, rusts, browns and greens. Not that they’re not handsome, (I call them the 70’s palette), but I prefer the pinks, reds and blues. Did your grandmother choose the colors herself?

It’s absolutely lovely, and I agree about the color scheme. I like the roses/pinks. Did you great grandmother sign and date it by any chance?

Hi Sharon, Can you add me to the waiting list for this class too psleae? I’ve never tried crazy quilting but I am in the process of making a fabric journal which incorporates some of the techniques (or at least my version of them) and would love to learn more. Having now sampled your sumptuous surface class I just know that you’re the one to teach me. Judith
