Rooster: More Feathers
I’ve been working away on the feathers. Maybe the upper layer of feathers could have a vertical pattern, as if they are drooping. I’m afraid the PhD dissertation takes priority, so I’ve got limited time for embroidery and posting.

Rooster: Feather Experiment
I tried a couple of experimental feathers (on the right) before finding an arrangement I liked: solid outline on one side with horizontal lines filling it in, which creates stylized feather shapes. This covers the same blocks that the cross-stitching … Continue reading
May Mouse: Start
A while ago I worked the April Mouse kit (see the finished result) from Woodland Threads as a present for my cousin’s new baby. There’s another one on the way, so it is time for mouse number two! This one … Continue reading
Rooster: Body in Blackwork
I started work on the blackwork body. I’m glad I chose a darker ground fabric. If I was working the pattern on white I’d consider backing it with something. I think it would be tricky to keep the tails on … Continue reading

Rooster: Gold feathers
I cross-stitched the gold feathers plus some decorative dots. I’m still thinking about the large black feathers – maybe fill them in with double running stitch over two squares? That would be quicker and easier than cross-stitch, and still fit … Continue reading

Rooster Project: Start
I can resist no longer. New project! This is the blackwork/cross-stitch rooster from Carol Leather of X-Calibre Designs. I am swapping out the suggested threads for DMC Floche 815, 310, and 437. I like this fabric, though it isn’t even-weave, … Continue reading

Plas Teg Bellpull: To the frame shop!
It’s going to look fabulous! And a million billion thanks to my brother for dashing about getting it ready, and to Anna of Talliaferro for all her help making sure the thing gets ready in time for the show. I … Continue reading
Plas Teg Bellpull: Finished
Well here it is – the Plas Teg Bellpull from the Mary Jane Collection, worked in embroidery floss with some color/stitch modifications. I’m sure it’s gorgeous in wool too. It’s 24 inches by 6 inches (60 cm by 15 cm). … Continue reading

Plas Teg Bellpull: Last flowers
Folks, I finished the last of the bellpull and it is winging its way to Virginia for the 50th Annual Woodlawn Needlework Exhibition (so excited!!!!!!!). It’ll be on display at the Woodlawn estate (originally part of Mount Vernon! For non-Americans, … Continue reading
